God's own country

Lovely Fort House Hotel in Kochi/Cochin.

"A drop of waterin the ocean is too small but your presence in this world is an ocean for many people. You are precious. Know it. Show it." (Meena)

In the waters of Kochi you find a lot of water hyacinth. It seems like it is an invasive species, originally from Southern America.
However, I ask myself how this free-floating plant can exist. It is found in the brackish water of the estuary. Naturally, when there is low tide, some of them get lost in the sea and when there is high tide, the remaining ones are pushed land inward. But since there is a net-outflow of water, there must also be a similar outflow of plants. Moreover, the sea-water is salty and accordingly heavier and the fresh water should constitute the upper layers discharging into the sea. Since to my understanding the plants have no means to move, they must either grow very fast or there are other factors such as the wind.
